The Open Office Writer application has become one of the most popular open source word processing applications used throughout the world. One of the more popular attributes of the Writer application is its ability to load and save documents in a wide variety of formats that are compatible with many of the commercially produced word processing programs on the market such as Microsoft Word. A common task that arises for Open Office Writer users is configuring the options in the program for loading and saving documents.
Configuring General Load/Save Options in Open Office Writer
Step 1 – Open Writer by double clicking the Open Office icon on your computer’s desktop or by selecting from the System menu or tray and selecting the “Writer” menu option on the primary panel that opens.
Step 2 – Select the “Tools” and “Options” menu options from the file menu of Open Office Writer.
Step 3 – Single click the “+” symbol that is located to the left of the “Load/Save” menu label.
Step 4 – Click the “General” menu label located just beneath the “Load/Save” menu on the expanded options after completing Step 3.
Step 5 – Enter the applicable/desired data to be included with new documents created or modified in the Open Office Writer application.
Configuring VBA Properties in Open Office Writer
Step 1 – Single click the “VBA Properties” menu label located beneath “Load/Save” in the “Options” menu in Writer.
Step 2 – Determine if you want to keep macros that are contained in MS Word documents that you open in Open Office Writer. You can select “Save original Basic code” in order to preserve the macros utility when saving the document in MS Word format. Alternatively, you can choose “Load Basic code to Edit” in order to save the code in native Writer format but it will not be preserved if you then save the work in MS Word format.
Configuring Microsoft Office Document Options in Writer
Step 1 – In the “Options,” “Load/Save” menu select the “Microsoft Office” option.
Step 2 – In the subsequent dialogue box select the checkbox to “Convert Microsoft OLE Objects into corresponding Open Office OLE Objects” when a Microsoft Word documents is loaded into Writer.
Step 3 – Choose the appropriate checkbox to convert Open Office OLE objects into Microsoft OLE objects when saving in a native Microsoft Word format.
